What is a cavity?

What is a cavity?

This is a process of destruction of the hard tissues of the tooth, through the action of acids, excreted during the metabolism of the bacteria found in plaque.
Plaque, develops and matures on the enamel surface. After being removed with brushing and flossing, it takes about 24 hours. organized in getting back.

The sugars in your diet, multiply bacterial metabolism. Release of acid, lowering pH. on the enamel surface, and start to detach calcium ions wheel. Gradually, as removing bricks from a wall. When you have removed enough bricks, comes more plaque, which continues doing the same to infinity.

The enamel surface may be hard or soft can be. The bricks may stick well with little or cement. The enamel may be smooth and soft, but it may be defective and cracked.

Your health may be unacceptable or may be meticulous.

Bacteria can be aggressive or not. You, can you eat many sweets made, cookies, pastries, candy, especially those sticky, or none.

This action affects the decay. But bacteria do not know any of this, just know how to do their work, day and night, including holidays. If conditions are favorable, and time passes, we have a hole called dental caries.

The issue is not so simple, is complex, partly unknown and partly hypothetical. In fact little is known, and what little is known, is of little use.

Ideally, knowing, understanding in depth, how it occurs and prevent decay completely, rather than cure and just wait until you see another.

Absolute prevention of cavities today, NO. On prevention, self exite, and we know it and use it.

In short and to the point, the decay, after crossing the enamel, is an irreversible process of putrefaction.
